Travelling to Nara in Japan, we have picked NOBORIOJI HOTEL which is only a 3-minute walk from Kintetsu Nara Station. Noborioji Hotel offers modern luxurious accommodations with warm lighting and both free wired and wireless Internet access.
Why do we choose this hotel?
Apart from its very accessible location to the station as well as the lovely deer park, the hotel is also awarded with “four red pavilions, the best comfort hotel” by the Michelin Guide Nara, and ranked as the best among the four hotels rated in Nara. Altogether five hotels in Japan rated in the guide.
(Red pavilions in the Michelin Guide indicates “higher comfort” compared to the ones rated with the same number of marks.)
Upon arrival, we were escorted to their Western-style bar right next to the lobby. The bar is fully stocked with a wide range of spirits and cigars. We particularly liked their shiny wooden design and the leather chairs.
A warm towel and a welcome drink of chilled fresh grapefruit juice was served for us shortly after, a perfect cold refreshment during this hot summer time in Japan.
The three-storey building can easily be got around by elevator or by staircase. A conference room is located on the Basement floor and it is available upon reservation. The Dining, The Bar, and The Reception front desk are all located on the 1st floor, and there is a Fitness Room on the 2nd floor.
We took a little tour of the hotel and stopped by at their very well equipped gym room with cardio and weight training machines on its 2nd floor. Isn’t it great to do some exercise when you are on the road?
We were also told that Aroma Therapy and Relaxation Massage can be offered for you to relieve your body and soul, getting your body in balance with muscle toning and skeletal correction techniques!
There are 5 types of room with different special characteristics and floorplans.

At the work table, a few powerpoints can be found for your electronics and a power socket adaptor can be used if you are coming from another country like us. A LAN cable can also be found in the drawer for you to connect your computer to the Internet with wire but high speed WiFi is actually available everywhere in the hotel. Daily newspaper is delivered to keep yourself updated with the news.
The Deluxe Twin Room comes with a spacious balcony and white slippers can be used if you wish to step out of the room to enjoy some fresh air and the amazingly relaxing view from the window. The lace and the curtain can be opened and closed by the electronic panel on the bedside. We would recommend you to close the curtain if you would like to privacy during the nighttime.
A thoughtful selection of fresh fruits and Japanese delicacies are provided on the table to greet us after a short journey by Kintetsu train. We really loved the sweet Japanese Kyoho grapes which gives a unique kind of taste, while the cute little puffy rice cakes are imprinted with the logo of the hotel. It is really heart warming and we can tell that the hotel pays attention to details.
Forget about the boring iPod dock, our room is equipped with a wireless speaker from my favourite sound system brand, BOSE! With no doubt nor disappointment, every note comes crispy clean from this small yet powerful BOSE speaker. We couldn’t be happier and be more surprised with their quality facilities in the room!
If you are coming with some valuable belongings, a big safe would be for you then. It is located right next to bedside, leaving you no worry even when you leave the room without your valuables.
You can sit on the comfortable sofas and watch DVDs or listen to music. Nightwear and bathrobes are provided for all guests, guaranteeing you a good night sleep in comfortable cloths.
Next to the main entrance, an electronic temperature control panel to maintain a good temperature in your comfy room, one thing to highlight is that the room is also equipped with a very thoughtful humidity machine to control and maintain the perfect humidity, avoiding the air-con to dry out your skin. Dryness is something we are always worried about when staying in hotel rooms when travelling abroad, we feel absolutely comfortable in our room in Noborioji Hotel this time and this might the first-ever great stay not just from the big bed, but also the whole experience inside-out.
A big closet with enough of hangers and space for us to feel more like home, iron board, clothes brush, ironer, shoe horns and other shoes cleansing equipments. As we mentioned before, white and brown slippers are for outdoor area, while the cotton brown one is for indoor.
The minibar is stocked with spirits like the very rare Hibiki 17 years (always out of stock in duty free), Nespresso coffee capsules, green tea and different blends of tea, alcoholic drinks, soft drinks, juice, beer, nuts, complimentary bottled water and complimentary instant noodles. You surely will get well taken care of when staying in Noborioji with their 24/7 concierge.
If you have come to Japan before, you would know that the hotel rooms are generally small with a tiny plastic bathroom. As you can see, this beautiful sizeable en suite bathroom is equipped with a standing shower as well as a big bathtub, even the infamous water spraying Japanese toilet is with a good brand, TOTO. Taking me some time to get used to, we ended up enjoying “bidet” very very much.
The hotel also takes their amenity seriously. They use the luxurious French brand, Algotherm, L’occitane, and skincare brand from Shishedo. We felt like we do not need to bring anything with us when staying in this hotel because they have got everything covered from head to toe, including bath products, skincare, bath salt, soap, hair products, two types of hair brush, toothbrush, toothpaste and mouth wash, sewing kits, shave and cream.
A new model of Panasonic two-headed hair dryer and scale can also be found in the bathroom! Going on holiday is about taking good care of yourself, relaxing, and exploring the city. We almost felt like we get pampered too well, but in a good way 🙂
We were also introduced to their heart-warming “Turn Down Service”, which they would make the bed for us with our nightwear being put at the end of the bed, and some sweet chocolates and weather forecast would be placed on the bedside table for us to get ready for the next exciting day!
Located right next to Nara Park, Noborioji Hotel is a 15-minute walk from Todai-ji Temple and a 25-minute walk from Kasuga Taisha Shrine. Nara Station offers a 35-minute train connection to Kyoto, and a 100-minute bus connection to Kansai International Airport.
