Since its founding in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland in 1881, Movado has been synonymous with artistry, design excellence and technological innovation, pushing the boundaries of modern design and elevating the art of watchmaking to a fine art form. To celebrate over 130 years of deep reverence for the arts and commitment to artistic achievement, the Swiss watchmaker launched a digital art event entitled “Movado Be Inspired”. Officiating guests included Mr. Julian Addison, President of Movado Group Inc., Asia Pacific, Ms. Vera Chan, Vice President of Movado, Asia and Hong Kong, celebrity Ms. Jinny Ng Yuek-hei, Taiwanese singer-songwriter Mr. Aska Yang Zong-wei and Chinese super model Ms. Shu Pei Qin.
Guests embarked on an artistic journey – an alchemy of art, technology and heritage – through an evening of flowing fluorescent colours, mesmerizing visuals of classic watches and senses-heightening technological interactions. A four square meter state-of-the-art digital installation served as a canvas, on which guests created stunning neon-effect drawings by using the motion detection function of the new “Movado Be Inspired” app. In addition, snapshots of the event were transformed into artistic images using the “Filter” function of the app, which were printed instantly for guests to keep.
To showcase the brand’s history and its enduring connection with the arts, Movado also exhibited heritage timepieces from the Movado Artists’ Series on this occasion. The collection, which had never made a public appearance in Asia before, included the Movado “Times 5” watch designed by pop artist Andy Warhol in 1987, the Movado “Bill-Time” watch designed by Swiss architect and artist Max Bill in 1992, and more.
